What do elves and yokai have in common?

Elves and yokai, two worlds of forests, magic and mischief. Find out what connects them in this curious and fun post.

A fair-haired elf wearing a crown of leaves points to an open book, next to a smiling capybara, a ghost and a white fox.

Elves have pointed ears and are very good at magic. You have surely seen them in books, in films or in a tabletop role-playing game with dice.

What if I told you that yokai, the creatures of Japanese folklore, are more alike than you think?

Forests, magic and lots of mystery

Both live close to trees and nature. Both have powers that logic cannot explain.

Some yokai are very mischievous. They hide things, play pranks and laugh at those who are easily confused. The elves in the tales also know how to get up to some mischief.

Each with their own story

There are friendly yokai and cheeky yokai, just as there are wise elves and very serious elves. The best way is to discover them little by little.

Look at the illustration: the elf points to a book with three spines. One is about elves, another about role-playing games and another about yokai. That is how the journey begins.

Chigüi is already in the front row, with its bow tie and lots of curiosity. Do you have a favourite elf or yokai? Tell us in the comments.
